On July 2009, after a career in broadcasting that spanned over 40 years, Ron, Founder and Past President of OMT retired from active duty and fulltime employment. Wanting to keep in contact with many industry friendships he’s made over the years, he joins his brother Ted on part time operations of Ron Paley Broadcast. No matter what project, product or company Ron has been involved with, there was one quality that he has never left in question and that is his integrity. His care and loyalty to this industry, employees, customers, friends, family or to anyone who simply met him, he has always put himself second in making sure everyone around him is completely satisfied.

The workshop had a morning and afternoon session and was very well attended. Some focused information in the mystical world of air chain processing was given by Jeff to the engineers. In return, some real life scenarios were brought forward by engineers attending the workshop for Jeff’s analysis. In a final overview, most attendees felt the sessions were well presented and Jeff’s approach was general and widely focused on a good range of topics and products in the air chain process.

Traffic in the Hospitality Suite was excellent keeping all of us busy with demos and socializing with many customers and new engineers visiting the RPB Suite for the first time.

Other Convention highlights were the Friday night barbque and the Saturday evening post golf awards banquet. Anna Hooper even held yoga classes for spouses that were visiting the convention.

On Saturday afternoon, Jeff was scheduled to give Ted, Darrin and Ron Paley a hand with the RPB golf tournament foursome however the travel itinerary took the best of him and we wish to thank Joanne Desmarais of SBRF Montreal for stepping in to replace Jeff and lending her golf skills.

Without a doubt Joanne made the afternoon golf event interesting if not wild and crazy. Our game will never be the same – we came in second last however we did manage to birdie a few holes and get to have a close look inside of the Horseshoe Valley course forest looking for lost balls.

Yours truly did manage to win the Long Drive Contest on the 6th hole Horseshoe Valley Course - the shot was a beauty – draw ball high wins the distance race everytime. Now if I could only hit it a little more often – my game would really have improved. Oh Well – I’m still dreaming of that pro golf career. Kudos to Horsehoe Valley Course and CCBE’s William Johnson and his volunteers who so diligently, year after year, organize the CCBE Golf Tournament, the post game awards and tables and tables of outstanding prizes for players and guests.

The Ron Paley Broadcast Hospitality Suite hit an new all time drop-in attendance record and we wish to thank the many broadcast engineers and spouses that visited us for equipment demos, socializing and good times.

We are already making plans for the return to CCBE 2011 at Horseshoe – It’s the 60th Anniversary of the CCBE convention so check our website www.ronpaleybroadcast.com for details on our 30th Anniversary Celebration of having attended the CCBE as exhibitors as Oakwood Audio, OMT and RPB since 1981.

What a great time was had at Ron Paley Broadcast’s 5th Annual Toronto Broadcast Showcase held at the Grand Hotel and Suites September 13th, 14th and 15th 2010. Many thanks to all the Ontario Broadcasters that attended the showcase. A picture gallery at the show follows the Blog story.

Also kudos to all the staff and management at the Grand Hotel – we highly recommend them for your corporate functions. Great location, very friendly staff and excellent restaurant. www.grandhoteltoronto.com

My brother Ted (RPB) and son Darrin (Wheatstone USA) organized a great showcase with the latest in products from Wheatstone, Vorsis, Audioarts www.wheatstone.com, and PROrack Computers iproracksolutions.com

Rob Parsons of Parson’s Projects www.parsonsprojects.ca of St. Thomas Ontario held training and tutorials in radio automation, log traffic and music scheduling & Adobe Audition techniques.

The new Wheatstone E1 Surface Console was a big hit as it puts the surface console and router with most features small market broadcasters need in a nice package that can be purchased in the $12,900 price range. http://store.ronpaleybroadcast.com/products/Wheatstone-E1%252d12-Surface-%26-Blade-IP-Console-System.html

The Vorsis AirAura air chain processor dazzled the ears and eyes with its incredible sound and visuals for setting up exactly what you want in a radio station’s transmitted sound. http://store.ronpaleybroadcast.com/products/VORSIS-AirAura-The-Premiere-Air-Chain-Processor.html

PROracks showed their new line of Broadcast Designed Rack Mount computers. The MATRIX-II is ideal for automation systems and get this, they are only 15″ deep, fit most audio racks, hold two full size hard drives and are loaded with USB and even dual video. The quiet fan makes the MATRIX-II ideal for control room installation without the fan noise. http://store.ronpaleybroadcast.com/products/PROracks-MATRIX%252dII-15%22-Deep-2RU-Computer.html

Audioarts AIR 3 analog air console with 12 inputs really fits the bill for most college, small market and LPFM stations. http://store.ronpaleybroadcast.com/products/Audioarts-AIR3%252d12-Analog-Air-Console.html

Yours truly spent most of my time at the Showcase with the Wheatstone VMI virtual console system that is packaged in a 1U rackmount and comes with the Glass-E console software. iMediaTouch loaned us their new Wheatstone IP interface in Version 4 On Air and WOW…talk about a neat solution all inside a 8U rack case, MATRIX-II computer, VMI and Blade Router. This was a show knockout. http://store.ronpaleybroadcast.com/products/Wheatstone-VMI%252dB-Virtual-Mixer-Bundle.html

Another hightlight of the Toronto Showcase was the invitation to visit with John Coldwell D.O.E. of the new Corus Queens Quay facility. DOUBLE and TRIPLE WOW. What a showcase of iMediaTouch and Wheatstone in a simply mind blowing facility. Thanks for the tour of the entire plant. TV and Cable had not as yet moved in. Q107, The Edge and AM640 were all On Air and well settled in.

Till next year, thanks again to all who attended. Check the Ron Paley Blog and Ron Paley Broadcast website www.ronpaleybroadcast.com for details on the 2011 Toronto Broadcast Showcase. My trusty sidekick Spencer “Blog Cat” and I wish you well.

Welcome to the Ron Paley Broadcast Blog. Its inaugural date is January 12, 2011 and I, Ron Paley am thrilled to be able to put my many experiences and current activities in writing. I will also supplement those stories with some great photos that I collected along the way.

My 50+ years in a variety of careers has covered a wide range of vocations. Every new one that came along was as interesting and diverse as the one past. Most of my lifetime has been technology driven so every five – seven years there’s a whole new challenge and a brand new experience. I must admit while looking back, there has never been a single dull moment.

I’ve been a school teacher, banker, a musician, a rock band leader, recording artist, touring artist, sound system engineer, recording producer & technician, pro audio, hi-fi and broadcast products distributor, touring sound system provider, a computer programmer, broadcast automation software designer and developer, founder and co-founder of four corporations, (some that today still bear my name) and most recently I am a consultant specializing in all of the above mentioned genres.

Spencer My Blog Companion

I have a lot of great experiences and discoveries to write about and many more to be covered as a free lance consultant. So please join me in this wild ride and I do welcome and appreciate your comments. Till the next time, my trusty computer sidekick “Spencer” (Our Cat) and Ron Paley wish you well.
