CCBE 2010

CCBE 2010

On Sept 16, 17th and 18th, 2010, Ron Paley Broadcast attended the 59th annual Central Canada Broadcast Engineer’s Convention at the Horseshoe Resort,  Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

Our agenda at the convention was our busiest ever as we hosted an Engineer’s Workshop, displayed the latest IP broadcast equipment from Wheatstone, PROracks, AudioArts, Vorsis, iMediaTouch and arranged  the products in a spacious Hospitality Suite.

RPB Processor Workshop

Jeff Keith - Vorsis USA

On Thursday Sept 16th, Ron Paley Broadcast sponsored and hosted the 2010 CCBE Engineer’s  Workshop titled
“Audio Processing & Program Chains – From Source to RF”
The workshop featured moderator and technologist
Jeff Keith, Director of Development , Vorsis / Wheatstone Corporation, New Bern, NC, USA.
Jeff Keith can be viewed and heard On Line at

The workshop had a morning and afternoon session and was very well attended. Some focused information in the mystical world of air chain processing was given by Jeff to the engineers. In return, some real life scenarios were brought forward by engineers attending the workshop for Jeff’s analysis. In a final overview, most attendees felt the sessions were well presented and Jeff’s approach was general and widely focused on a good range of topics and products in the air chain process.

DOCK-FM Larche Communications

Many thanks to Larche Communications, President,  Paul Larche and D.O.E.,  Glenn Prins for allowing us to install the new Vorsis Air Aura processor on their 104.1 The DOCK-FM air chain.  This installation of a locally tuned & Vorsis processed station gave broadcasters at the CCBE a real listening test comparisons off the FM tuner in the RPB suite.

During the entire convention, A-B comparisons tests were given with competing local FM air signals. The results of the temporarily installed Vorsis Air Aura had to be heard.

Jeff Keith's AirAura Demo Draws A Crowd

Jeff Keith was able to tweak the Air Aura processor continuously from the suite via the Internet – thanks again to Glenn Prins for the IP connectivity provided that allowed the remote control of the Vorsis Air Aura at the Larche DOCK-FM transmitter. The Larche organization and many participants in the Vorsis audible demo sure were impressed.  For more info please visit us at

Ted Clarke's "Chopper"

Toronto based Broadcast Integrator Ted Clarke,  brought his remote controlled helecopters to the RPB Suite and some pictures below were taken LIVE of Ted trying to land the remote controlled flying device on Darrin Paley’s head.

Too Close for Comfort

Too Close for Comfort

You might say it could be the new way to get a  ”Closer Shave”….LOL!

Darrin Paley survived the “Hair Raising” ordeal quite nicely although he said he preferred the Gillette Fusion over Ted Clarke’s new “Heli-Chopper”.

The PROracks “MATRIX” rack mount computer is only 15″ deep and fits most audio racks was also a big hit.

The Suite Is Jumping

Traffic in the Hospitality Suite was excellent keeping all of us busy with demos and socializing with many customers and new engineers visiting the RPB Suite for the first time.

Other Convention highlights were the Friday night barbque and the Saturday evening post golf awards banquet. Anna Hooper even held yoga classes for spouses that were visiting the convention.

Joanne Does Not Keep Her Head Down!

Joanne Does Not Keep Her Head Down!

On Saturday afternoon,  Jeff was scheduled to give Ted, Darrin and Ron Paley a hand with the RPB golf tournament foursome however the travel itinerary took the best of him and we wish to thank Joanne Desmarais of SBRF Montreal for stepping in to replace Jeff and lending her golf skills.

Believe It or NOT! It's a Birdie

Believe It or NOT! It's a Birdie

Without a doubt Joanne made the afternoon golf event interesting if not wild and crazy. Our game will never be the same – we came in second last however we did manage to birdie a few holes and get to have a close look inside of the Horseshoe Valley course forest looking for lost balls.

Bob Larcan CCBE Longest Drive Trophy

The Longest Drive at Pebble "Dream On Ron!"

Yours truly did manage to win the Long Drive Contest on the 6th hole Horseshoe Valley Course - the shot was a beauty – draw ball high wins the distance race everytime. Now if I could only hit it a little more often – my game would really have improved. Oh Well – I’m still dreaming of that pro golf career.  Kudos to Horsehoe Valley Course and CCBE’s William Johnson and his volunteers who so diligently, year after year,  organize the CCBE Golf Tournament, the post game awards and tables and tables of outstanding prizes for players and guests.

The Ron Paley Broadcast Hospitality Suite hit an new all time drop-in attendance record and we wish to thank the many broadcast engineers and spouses that visited us for equipment demos, socializing and good times.

We are already making plans for the return to CCBE 2011 at Horseshoe – It’s the 60th Anniversary of the CCBE convention so check our website for details on our 30th Anniversary Celebration of having attended the CCBE as exhibitors as Oakwood Audio, OMT and RPB since 1981.
